How to Prepare for Your Colonic Session (And What to Do After)
At The Cleansing Space Clinic, we understand that taking the first step toward internal cleansing can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking—especially if it’s your first time. Whether you’re a returning client or preparing for your very first colonic session, this guide will help you feel informed, supported, and confident every step of the way.
Before Your Colonic: How to Prepare
A little preparation goes a long way. These simple steps will help you get the most out of your session:
1. Hydrate Well
In the days leading up to your appointment, aim to drink at least 1.5 to 2 litres of water per day. Hydration helps soften waste in the colon, making the process smoother and more comfortable.
2. Eat Lightly 24 Hours Before
Focus on light, nourishing foods like:
Steamed or lightly cooked vegetables
Fresh fruit
Herbal teas
Broths or soups
Avoid red meat, dairy, alcohol, processed foods, and anything heavy or fried. These can slow down digestion and make your session less effective.
3. Avoid Eating 2 Hours Before Your Session
Give your digestive system a break right before your appointment. An empty stomach can make the session more comfortable and effective.
4. Dress Comfortably
Wear loose, comfortable clothing to help you relax. You’ll be lying down for the duration of the session, so ease and comfort are key.
5. Arrive a Little Early
Give yourself time to settle in, use the restroom, and check in without rushing. Feeling calm and unhurried helps the body relax, which supports a better session overall.
After Your Colonic: Home care Matters
Your body just released a significant amount of waste and toxins—it’s time to support it with kindness and care. Here’s what we recommend after your session:
1. Rehydrate and Replenish
Continue drinking plenty of water. You can also add herbal teas, coconut water, or an electrolyte drink if you feel a bit tired or lightheaded.
2. Eat Gentle, Nourishing Foods
Stick to whole, easy-to-digest foods for the next 24–48 hours. Think:
Steamed vegetables
Light soups or broths
Quinoa or short grain brown rice
Stewed apples or pears
Avoid caffeine, alcohol, raw salads, heavy meats, spicy foods, and anything processed during this time.
3. Take a Good Probiotic
Colonics flush out waste—and sometimes beneficial bacteria, too. Replenishing your gut flora is important. We can recommend a high-quality probiotic at your appointment, or you can use your preferred brand at home.
4. Rest if You Need To
Some people feel energised after a session, others feel more subdued or even emotional. This is all perfectly normal. Listen to your body—take a nap, go for a gentle walk, or just have a quiet evening in.
5. Reflect on How You Feel
Every session offers new insight into your body and your health. Journaling or simply noting how you feel—physically and emotionally—can help you track your progress and notice improvements over time.
