Detox, short for detoxification, is the body’s natural, ongoing process of neutralizing or eliminating toxins from the body.
Toxins are anything that can potentially harm body tissue, including waste products that result from normal cell activity, such as ammonia, lactic acid and homocysteine, and human-made toxins that we are exposed to in our environment, food, and water. The liver, intestines, kidneys, lungs, skin, blood and lymphatic systems work together, to ensure that toxins are transformed chemically to less harmful compounds and excreted from the body. There are many different ways to cleanse and detoxify the body.
Body cleansing is both a short term and a long term processes. In the short term, we periodically implement a healthy Detox program to help flush toxins that have accumulated in the body. Long term, we make changes in our daily habits and lifestyle. This can occur gradually over time. You can choose to change a number of habits as a gradual process or you may prefer to do it monthly. For example eliminate coffee and introduce herbal teas instead, increase your water intake, reduce your meat intake, get more exercise, do deep breathing exercises in the morning, eat more vegetables and fresh fruit.
